Summer season is right around the corner at least for most parts of the world. For plenty of people, this means vacation time where they can go around with their friends and family for a trip to their favorite destination. If you’re among the people who prefer going on an adventure with their own vehicles, then it is a must to prepare your car before you officially head out. Here are 5 simple tips that you should always keep in mind whenever you’re planning for a long drive.
- Have your car fixed prior to your road trip
There is nothing worse than getting stuck in the middle nowhere while you are on a road trip. While towing services are widely available in most areas in the world, this can be a major setback for your plans. Make sure that you check on your car’s engine and have it fixed if there are problems at least two weeks before your planned trip. This can give you more time to make adjustments if ever your car won’t make it to the deadline.
- Schedule a maintenance session for your car
Apart from having it fixed (if needed) two weeks before your trip, you also need to make sure that you pay a visit at a car maintenance shop. They will tune your cars, and change the oil to ensure that you will have a hassle free drive once you start your trip to your target destination. Bear in mind that a good performing car will get you to your destination safer and faster.
- Check everything from your car fluids to your GPS
It is important to keep everything in check before you start your adventure. Do not leave out any detail. Try writing a list of items that you need to check like the tire pressure, the tires, the fuel, gas tank, batteries, spark plugs, coolant hoses, GPS devices, seatbelts, wipers, brakes, horns, and turn signals. Do this routine-check twice – two weeks before and one week before your intended departure day.
- Pack all the necessary troubleshooting tools
There will always be unavoidable circumstances where your car breaks down during a long drive. You need to make sure that when that happens, you are well prepared. As much as possible, bring the basic tools for troubleshooting cars like a set of socket, wrenches, and screwdrivers, a jack and a jack stand, metal tapes, and car jumper cables.
- Clean your car before you start your adventure
This step should be done in both the exterior and the interior of the car. It’s a no brainer tip that every car owner should do before they begin their travel. Make sure that you don’t leave out the air filter. Having a dirty air filter can cost you more energy and fuel. By cleaning your car, it gets proper conditioning and at the same time, this will also make your car look spic and span when you drive in to this new place with your friends and family.
